He was paroled and violated same and was remanded to the Federal Reformatory, Chillicothe, Ohio, on January 22, 1943. From November 19, 1945, to July 12, 1948, he served time for burglary at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. On January 11, 1949, he was received at the Florida State Penitentiary to serve four years for breaking and entering. He was received at the Louisiana State Penitentiary on June 13, 1952, to serve a ten- year sentence for possession of narcotics and armed robbery. At the time of MORRIS! escape from Alcatraz, he was serving a sentence of fourteen years for bank burglary, which sentence he received on September 19, 1956. They obtained $6,165.00 in coins which weighed a total of 1,200 pounds. Entry to the bank was gained through a hole in the wall in back of the first floor. They attempted to come down through the ceiling through the office upstairs but did not succeed. A hole was burned in bank vault No. 1, but they did not gain access to it. They were successful in burning a hole in bank vault No. 2. Tear gas located in both bank vaults was discharged.
