The Director commented on the attached June 18, 1962, "Washington
Post" story, “I trust our 8. F. Office isn't giving ‘blow by blow’ account to the press nor
anyone else. Our job is to find these thugs not keep them advised of our progress."
It should be noted that at the time Wick talked with Price in connection with
the Bureau of Prisons holding a press conference, Price stated his office and men are
maintaining ano comment." The press is, of course, aware the FBI is conducting an
investigation. Price stated he believed the fact a forth man was involved initially in the
break came to light through a leak at Alcatraz. He stated certainly the FBI is making no
comment concerning our progress or any aspect of the search.
