Supervisor _ _jadvised that her firm was han lling legal
problems for captioned Institute, and at that time, discussed a devious plan
for obtaining pornographic material from the State of New York through the FBI. N
was advised that the divulging of information from FBI files was =
under Department of Justice regulation and her proposal involved many problems. e
_ ‘Stated that she didn't want to consider this visit an Official request,
and that she would recontact the Bureau before any action to involve the Bureau
in a request of this nature. (See memorandum of this interview attached. ) i
On September 25, 1959, _ wrote the attached letter to the
; supervisor who had previously interviewed her relative to this matter, indicating
\.. ; that she and one of the founders of the captioned Institute, Dr. Wardell B. Pomeroy
{would recontact the Bureau in the next month to six weeks. During the original
interview, _ _lindicated that she would recontact the writer before going
ahead with an Official request for information from our files. Apparently they
- _have in mind making an official request for pornographic material from or through
the Bureau. ‘ . ’

. A check of Bufiles reveals that in June and July 1957, our Indianapolis
“3 Office was in contact with officials of the captioned Institute in an attempt to
- obtain information regarding the source of supply of obscene material received
by them in their research. Nothing to the advantage of the Bureau was developed
due to the policy of the Institute not to disclose the source of its material. This .
Institute may have a storehouse of material which would be of investigative interest.
