A source advised on May ll, 1964, that the African
American Heritage As enanrd ation (AAHA) with headau arters at 208 Waet

43rd Street, Chicago, Illinois, was “known as the Afro-American
Heritage Association until February, 1961. It was founded by
ISHMAEL FLORY around 1958 and incorporated in the State of Illincis
as a non-profit organization. It was founded cstensibly for the
purpose of teaching African history and culture tc American Negroes.
AAHA is strongly influenced by the Communist Party (CP) of Illincis.
It is represented by both communist and non-communist rembers, and
some people with strong nationalistic tendencies. This organization
reflects cP Policv on some issues and opposes cp policy on ethers;

for example, the CP rejects the cencept of Afro-American as a
reference term to the American Negro and rejects aspects of natior=-
alism, both of which are reflected in the AAHA progran,.
