If I could bring the Lomas and Nettleton or Colonial Mortgage people together with the executives in Libya, and if the loan could be made, I could then go to people in the White House and people in Congress and show to them that the first gesture has been made to assist this country in a place where the assistance is needed the greatest. Jimmy Carter is a longtime friend of mine. I have followed him in the press and I know where his anxieties rest. He is most anxious today about the problems in the housing industry. A gesture from any government or anyone to help relieve this pressure in the housing industry would be appreciated by Carter. You may review my background with your friends if you like. You will recall that I served as Comptroller General of this state for eight years. I was also Insurance Commissioner, Finance Commissioner, and assisted with the investment of pension funds for about eight years. I also served as Chairman of the National Association of Insurance Commis- sionets and president of that organization where I worked with authorities in Congress, the White House under President Lyndon Johnson, and with the entire insurance industry in America. I also have a long and close personal relationship with both of the United States senators from Georgia, as well as at least a dozen senators in other states, including Kennedy, Hollings, Thurmond, Nunn, Baker and several others. Gerald Rafshoon, who is the political adviser to the Presi- dent, is a former employee of mine. Hamilton Jordan, the President's first advisor, is a dear friend of mine. His family and my family have been friends and political associ- ates for years in Georgia. Jack Watson, who is secretary to the White House cabinet, is a friend. You can comfortably assure your friends that we know the people in the White House and we know our way around Washington. -I flew to Washington several weeks ago with young Prince Faisel of Saudi Arabia who has purchased a home in Atlanta. We had lunch with Senator Talmadge in the U. S. Senate dining room and then visited the offices of President Carter and the Vice President for about two hours in the afternoon, taking pictures in the Rose Garden, in the Oval Offices, and absolutely enjoying the visit there.
