Fred Lyons of the State Department telephonically advised

nd made by eres Bee to the effect that a Soviet agent nad been arrested
during some hearing on the Hill. My. Lyons requested advice as to whe ther or
not the Bureau had any information in regard to this matter.

A ‘In accordance with your request Mr. Lyons was advised that we had no- oe
“4 information concerning such an arrest and that if we were to arrest an agent
\ that he would, of course, be informed. At 2:25 p.m. Mr. Epstien, Times Herald
requested information in regard to the above matter and deSired to kriow what
comment the Bureau would make with regard to this statemmt. Mr. McGuire in-
structed the writer to advise Mr. Epstien that the Bureau had nd comment and
that the statement could not be confirmed or denied. Mr. Epstien was so advised
at 2:30 p.m. RE
