On July
22, 1972,
between 75
and 100
black persons
commenced a march
from the
campus of
Shaw University,
Raleigh,
North
Carolina,
a predominantly
black school.
The
march
began
at approximately
10 A.M., and
in accordance
with
their parade
permit to
demonstrate, the
demonstrators marched
from Shaw
University to
the North
Carolina State
Capitol
Building,
a distance
of five
blocks. A
speakers platform
with a microphone
had been previously set
up on
the
capitol
grounds for
use by
the demonstrators.

and
Mrs.
LEE FAYE HACK, members
North Carolina,
were two
of the
the
people
in
attendance
at
the
talked
about
the
inequities and
of the
BPP from
Winston-Salem,
five speakers
who addressed
demonstration and
each
injustices against
black
inmates throughout
the North_Caro1ina
Prison System.
They
called for
the release
of all
black prisoners
and advocated
black unity.

The BPP
held a rally at the Kimberly Housing
Project in
Winston-Salem, Nort
Carolina, at
approximately
5 PM on
July
30, 1972.
There were
approximately 2,600
people in
attendance at
the rally
and the
BPP gave
away
about 1,000
bags of
groceries which
had been previously
solicited from
local merchants.
During the
course of
the
rally BPP
members gave
free sickle
cell anemia
tests to
approximately 800
people and
approximately 500
persons
were registered
to vote.
