BACKGROUND: O
This book alleges to be the "truth about Kim Philby,
double agent.’ Philby is the. former British inteliIgence “S¥ticer
who defected to Russia in 1963 and is still o cunidiaieenanaebnnseamnientees there. Prior
to his defection, Philby admit t cc quesinennanaaIII + hat
he had been a Soviet agent during his whole career. He further
admitted that he had warned Donald Maclean, British diplomat and
also a Soviet agent of his impending arrest in 1951. Philby
said that he used Guy Burgess, another British diplomat and
Soviet agent, for this purpose, As a result Of his Warning, 1
both Burgess and Maclean fled to Russia in 1951. Philby, “-
his actions, earned the title of “the third man."
