Mr, Austen Alba (Edmonton): The. .
matter which I wish to raise is, ¥ think,
& most extraordinary gloss on the debate | -
which we have just’ conducted, hope
that the Parliamentary Secretary, in his
reply, will deal with the matter ia the
same fiberal terms as those used by his
right hon. Friends the Foreign Secretary
and the Prime Minister, because the
matter with which we are concerned ig -
& very similar one. It might, in fact, be
said that this is the Burgess and Maclean
case in reverse. J hope, therefore, that
the Parliamentary Secretary will adopt
the same sort of attitude towards it as -
Was adopted by the Prime Minister in
Kis peroralion a few moments BgO.-
To put the House in possession of the
facts, may 1! say that this arose out of a
conference held on 28th September on
regional planning and development at
Bedford College. This conference had
its origin in a symposium—— afte oe
it being Ten o'clock, the Motion for

That this House do now adjourn—{Mr.

E. Wokefield] 1.7
Mr. Alba: The symposium ‘at the
Imperial lastitute in 1953 was attended
by about 100 persons with academic and
professional qualifications in the fields of
architecture, sociology, economics, agri-
culture, community development and
iows planning. The purpose of the con-
ference was to try to set up a centre to
improve the means of co-operation and
exchange of information between people
engaged in the very broad fields of
Fegional planning and. development
throughout the wortd. eaiy potty
_ AS a result of the symposium there
was sti up a preparatory committee,
which Gnaliy consisted of 16 persons. In
view of the accusations which have been
implied by the Government against the
TSOnS organising the conference, may
say right away that at the most there
were three members of that committee
