her by Julia Kraus at the instization of von Gienanth.
SAC uckee, in conclusion, wished to be advised of the
Sureauts attitude regarding a possible interview with William
Randolph hearstin this case, in view of the fact that informa-
tion was subritted to the Los Anzeles Field Office by a confiden-
tial source tnatHearst was contactec by Inralls. This contact
avesrently occurred sometime durin; the summer of 1941, and she
alle gedly stated to the informant that Hearst was reacy to finance
her flicht to Europe, and then to let her work for the Eearst
pavers in Sernany as a corressondent. However, when the State
Desartmert refused to issue her a passport, dearst did not wish
to so further with the plans. When she offered to co without
a passport, licearst revortedly was afraid he sisht become involved
in some unpleasant developments. Ingalls expressed the opinion
that in the event she once vot to Germany she could again take
up her contact withnearst wnere it haa previously terminated.
The above nezotations anosarently were with reference te In-allis'
plan for a flight to Germany to further a peace plan and to
a@avise the German people that the American public was not being
tole the truth with reference to the war. SAC ccKee was advised
to hola in abevance am lead with reference to the interview of
nearest, and, rending advice from you, no further action will be
taken aélonz these lines. This contact witn Hearst apparently,
af actually consuzmated, would not necessarily add any informa-
don of an evidentiary velue to the instant case.
An additional factor that may be of interest to you
with reference to this case is that a teletype was received from
the hew York Office on Decerber 19, 1941, in the case entitled
"ars. Evnel F. Brighan, with alias; Internal Security." As you
will recall, irs. Etnel F. Brighar was the subject of a merorandum
to the Attorney General on Noverber 3, 1941, to the effect that
she and other members of her farily were fanatically pro-Nazi
and that a dauchter of the farily, presumably Barbara Brichan,
had indicated to Pare Ellinzer, of hew York City, that there is
an organization of 500,000 me.bers in the United States ready
te take up arms azainst the President if this country enters the
war. The Furetu is currently investigating the Brigham facily.
