Character: POSSIBLE EXTORTION AND/OR INTERSTATE
HARRASSING OR OBSCENE TELEPHONE CALL
Synopsis; Assistant Editor, TOM KUNCL, National Enquirer Newspaper,
Lantana, Florida, furnished information indicating staff
for National Enquirer had been threatened by CHARLES MANSON,
MANSON had written a letter to KABC TV, Lantana, threatening
these individuals. Staff head additionally received threaten-
ing telephone calls possi om DENNIS RICE, iong time
MANSON associate. AUSA EDC, declined Federal prose- b6
cution noting MANSON currently serving seven consecutive b7C
life terms and additional prosecution would serve no useful
purpose.
DETAILS:
This is case is predicated upon receipt of information
from Assistant Editor, TOM KUNCL, National Enquirer Newspaper,
Lantana, Florida, who telephonically contacted the Washington
Field Office on January 27, 1977, and advised as follows:

article and demanding that a tape recording of the interview
