: This letter states in substance that KAYE has been requested oT
by the U.8.0. to make a tour of certain overseas bases in an entertainnent |
wnit requested by the War Department, and that he, PHILLIPS, had made an
apvlication to Local Board 229 for DANNY r KATA'S release dat hed received
Ain reply the following:
a At a fall meeting of the board held this evening, permission
is denied.*
The letter continued in substance that KAYE after being examined
by all doctors' requests, was placed in 4F and because of this 4F classifica-
tion is free to pursue any civilian occupation and also Pemneated a reversal
of ruling by Local Board 229.
The next letter dated December 31, 1943 to Major GENERAL LEVIS .
3B. HERSHEY, and signed Colonel ARTHUR V. McDERMOT? is quoted as follows?
"Dear General Hershey:
" I have your letter of December 29 enclosing a letter of appeal
from the Determination of Local Board #229 not to issue a permit to depart
from the United States to the above named registrant. I have forwarded a
sete copy of your letter together with the notice of appeal to the Local Board
with instructions to submit the case proxmptly to the Board of Appeals.
