I. PERSONAL HISTORY
The follewing background information pertaining to
the appointee was obtained from his personnel file which is
maintained by Geologieal Survey in Washington, D.C.
EDWARD PAUL ABBEY was born January 29, 1927, at Indiana,
Pennsylvania, He graduated from the Indiana High School at Indiana,
Pennsylvania, and he attended the University of New Mexico fron
January, 1948, until June, 1951, at which time he received an
A.B. Degree. From September, 1951, until June, 1952, he attended
the University of Edinburgh in Scotland on a Fulbright Fellowship.
Concerning his previous employment it was indicated that
from June 25, 19h4, until July 19, 194, he was employed as a cannery
laborer for the California Packing Company at Oakdale, California.
From June 22, 1945, until February 13, 1947, he served in the U.S.
Amy and reported that from April, 1946, until December, 1946, he
was a clerk-typist with the 88th Division of the U.S. Army at Gorizia,
Italy. From November 15, 1918, until May 16, 1949, he was employed
as an assembler for the General Electrie Company at Erie,
Pennsylvania, During July, 1952, he was employed as a clerk~typi st
by the Geological Survey where he is go employed at the present
time and he resides at 1426 = 2lst Street, N.W., in Washington, D.C.

The personnel files of the Geological Survey of the
