The article reflected that Duke Ellington had appeared at the dance. The Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln &rtoade has been destgonated THEY General pursuant to Erecutive Order 10450. (109-7060-97 page 4) On Novenber 10, 1941, a dinner waa otven at Ciro'’s Restaurant, Hollywood, California, under the cusptces of the dnertcan Comnittee to Save Refugees, the Exrtled Fritera Comnittee, and the United American Spanish Aid Committee. The program for the dinner Iitsted one Duke Ellington as being on the Comnittee of Sponsors for the dtnner. The Amertcan Comatttee to Save Refucees was cited as a communtat front by the Spectal Comatttee on Un-American Activities tn a report dated March 29, 1944. The Californta Committee on Un-American Acttuittes tn 1948 described the Srtled Writers Connittee aa an organtzation established by the comnunteat League of Anertean Writers to bolster the comauntst front, the Amertean Conntttee _ to Save Refugees. The Extled Friters Coamittee was further reported as having worked with other communtst fronts and tn 19¢2 merged tnto the Jotnt Antt-Fasctst Refugee Commtttee. The United American Spantsah Atd Conntttee has been destgnated dby—. theAttorrey —G. az pursuant to Erecuttve Order 10450, (100-7061-115) Te — -. " ". Phe report of the Spectal Commtttee on Un-Anertean Acttutttes, United States Hcuse of Representatives, published tr 1944, reflected that the Artists’ Front to Win the War made tts debut at a mass meeting at Carnegte Hall, New York, Hew York, on October 16, 1942, Exhtbit Number 2, set out tn the report, which appears to be a program of the above-described mass meeting, reflected Duke Ellington as one of the esponsore.
