Then he and his gang formed the idea that I snitched on him (Johnson). I did. Prank Cambany got sore and said all manner of evil things about me; but 1 did not lose my temper. Frank was a shoe shine boy at the Confectionery Store, Oscar Johnson was the manager, and Clint Rice was the cmer; Frank's rent was up on Friday, Now that Friday, about noon just before Frank moved a detective by the name of Millbrooks (a negro) stopped by the store and arrested Frank on suspicion of robbery. That gave them the belief that I was a stool pidgeon, This Frank fellow wanted to be a gangster real bad, #0 they planned to kill me and appointed Frank to do the job. Roosevelt, I did not know these things before I was arrested. I learned all of these things after I was framed. After Frank could not get a chance to kill me they planned to frame me If they were even caught, They know IJ would be easily framed because I was out on parole. So they robbed @ place in East St. Louls and got caught, the law came and got me out of bed on their statement. They baat me two nights straight with sy hands tied behind me and my feet chained to the floor. I can and will testify theses things in sourt. While hanging by my wrist they beat me and kicked me all over. They were careful not to disfigure my face. They made ae gay yes and that 1 was with them. I was arrested Jan. 9th, 1940. They “. got me out of bed and 1 knew nothing about these robberies, Mrs, Roosevelt those fellows told the truth after the detectives hed obtained a warrant for me. These are the names of the men who implicated me but told the truth later. Oscar Johnson pleaded guilty and was given 30 years. Frank Cambany intered a Plead and received 20 yeara. Carvest Taylor got 20 years. Eddie Parish was their chauffeur and was given & years. They sii are in the State Prison of Jefferson City. .
