Memerandum for r, Nichels Page “wo that if they needed help to call upon some gray haired lady who heads the local office in Minneapolis. JI did not get her nane, ~»o merely rose and took a how. Assistant Chief of Police Bob Munch, NPA, OMAHA, Chief of Police Joseph Carroll, NPA, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Pete Duchene, Sheriff of North Platte, each ihformed me that Ness' outfit in Nebraska was nothing but a lot of wind and had accomplished absolutely nothing. In his talk, Hahn of course avoided reference to the Rureaue. Jt gave me an opportunity in following Rim on the program of pointing out several Federal Statutes wit'in our jurisdiction which can effectively be used in eliminating local vice. Toward the end of the Convention when the resolutions committee had. completed its reports, I got a great chuckle when Hahn rose from the fioor stating tt has been customary at law enforcement meetings to have @ resolution adopted on behalf of Elliot Ness, whereunon he whipped out of his coat pocket a prepared resolution which no one offered to sponsor and so it was sponsored by Hahn himself and accented by the Acting President Guy Nohhs, Spectal Agent o, the C.B. @ C, Ratlroad, It was ohviously embarrassing to Hahn hecause the officers in attendance made quite a stir and Hahn frankly admitted from the floor that he was determined to get a resolution passed be- fore he had left Omaha. It was passed at once and Mahn left the meeting. The result was that while he got his resolution the concensus of opinton among the officers there was that tt was a grandstand lay for an outfit not worth very much. . Respectfully, Je ve MeGuire
