WILLIAM RUSSELL MATIX, ET AL model 3000, used by subject MICHAEL LEE PLATT SA's JERRY DOVE and BENJAMIN GROGRAN durin 7 rw L naa ang 4) On March 19, 1986, at 9:30 a.m., two male subjects carrying a short barrel pump shotgun and a military type shoulder weapon (possibly MINI-14) entered the BARNETT BANK, 13593 South Dixie Highway, Miami, Florida, obtaining $8,338 in robbery loot. Subjects made their getaway in a 1982 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, black two decor model, bearing Florida license NTJ-891. 10, (FL) Nn aod cre chara rot Valimiiliebiiiecbermole® Monte Carlc, (FL} NTU=891, was stolen fron on March 12, 1986, while Qiwas target shooting at an abandoned rock pit in southwest Dade County (same locale as BRIEL homicide on October 4, 1986). While akeb.:: target shooting, two 47 Cc white males arrived at the rock pit in a white Ford pickup truck with off-color striping, brandished a SMITH _& WESSON Magnum revolver and a RUGER MINI-14 shot four times and then fled the scene taking Monte Carlo as well as his two weapons (.38 caliber § SSON model 14 revolver and .22 caliber MARLIN rifle, Model 60). lived and furnished composite description of his assailants. Seppe revolver was recovered at the residence of MICHAEL LEE subsequent to captioned incident, and MATIX owned a white Ford pick-up truck. The four bank robberies briefly described above exhibited numerous similar or identical circumstances and characteristics to warrant a conclusion by investigating FBI SA's that these robberies, as well as the rock pit shooting incidents, were carried out by common subjects (exact number unknown). The frequency of the robberies, as well as the relatively confined area of the activity led to a hypothesis that these subjects would carry out similar style robberies in the near future and stage these heists in the same general area. Prior to April 11, 1986, the FBI increased liaison with armored couriers and area banking officers. Local police Gepartments also increased patrol coverage of institutions in the south Miami area. The FBI conducted random surveillance of armored car routes and scheduled deliveries, and saturated the suspect area by quadrant assignment of personnel on dates considered probable robbery days. It was in the furtherance of this technique that SA's were assigned surveillance responsibilities in southwest Miami on April 11, SYNOPSIS OF SHOOTING INCIDENT; APRIL 11, 1986 At approximatel 8:45 a.m. fourteen SA's, ating out , of eleven automobiles, initiated an area canvas/survelllance, loosely covering a target area along South Dixie Highway, (aka U.S. Highway 1) beginning at the north on 130th Street and ae eaggt terminating at the south on 183 Street.
