A confidential informant, @MMMB on spril 9, 1943, reoorted that (Communist and member of the law firm of Communist Party attorneys) had drawn up a list of lawyers who have expressed liberal opinions at some time, each to be called or written a Idter by the Guile getting their sucport in opposition to the legislation the Lawyers The name of =DLUND BROSN was on that list. Lawyers Guild is opposing. as well as Communist and other member of the above law firm), actively campaigned for BROWN in his candi- dacy for San Francisce County Jistrict attorney in the Fall lections of 1943. PROIN, during the campaign, frequently met and consulted with and t one time stated that BROYN was a former classmate of his in law school and that he, was instrumental @ endorse PRO"N's candidacy. On November 3, 1943, after the election, again reported that and GHP in discussing the results of the election, inal ated that they were elated over BROWN's election and > that put him over the ton. QHD further advised taat aiter ection, BROWN contacted and said, "Thanks a cillion for all your fine work in behalf, If it hadn't been for those extra 7,500 to 8,000 aaa I would never have made it." Confidential Informant @SREEB on November 9, 1943, reported that an individual believed to be @MMMENNEMB, then an official of the San Francisco Chapter of the Lawyers Guild, requested to work on a sub- committee of the guild which was to work out a srogram for the District Attorney's Office in connection with the war activities, and which was working undoubtedly toward getting 2DMUND BROWN, the District. Attorney, into the Lawyers Guild. aD 2: that time suggested that his partner, would be a better man to work on such a conmittee because he was close to PRONN and had been instrumental in getting a bloc of votes’ for BRC’MN in the election. l2-76249—I7%
