HEARST: Mr. Hearst, in response to the SLA's demand for an additional $4 million to the needy, at a press conference 2/22/74, Stated "The size of the demand is beyond my financial capabilities, therefore, the matter is out of my hands". Charles Gould, Hearst executive and confidant, at the press conference announced that the Hearst Corporation was prepared to contribute an additional $4 million to the food distribution program; —~ $2 million now and $2 million in January, 1975, provided the victim is released unharmed.
