Dear Mr. Chairman:
During my recent appearance before members of the
Fovee Appropriatiocas Subcormittee, an interest and concern were
manifestes regaréing recent kidnepings which have occur, e& throug
ont the country. Since February 4, 1974, when Patricia Hezrst vas
abcucted, there have been five ikicnapings and a plot to kidnap
a Consni General in the Los Angeles, California, area. TF
thought you night be interested in receiving a brief review of
these Ceaces.
On February 20, 1974, John Reginalé Nurphy, rditor
£ ‘Gho Atlanta Constitution” was kidnaped from his Atlanta,
“ —G-byoia, residence. Hurpby was released on Fenruary 22, 1974; fol-~
cing the payment of $700,000 ransom. Hillian August Hein Wiliens
- tis wife, Batty Ruth Willjans, were arrested by the FEI during.
