He referred to a news story quoting me as saying, "I have never seen anything good come out of comrro- mising with a bunch of hoods." Having known for a long time, it seems somewhat strange for him to suggest someone else keep their ( mouth shut. As far as this quote from me is concerned, I think it important for the Bureau to know the details. On Wednesday, 2/13/74, I spoke before the Northern California Radio and Television News Directors Association. This soeech had been scheduled for at least two months. It was recorded by at least a dozen news representatives. During the talk I discussed the Bureau's jurisdiction and activities, particularly regarding investigations of bank robbery, air-~ craft hijackings, extortion, etc. In reference to aircraft hijackings, I did make the statement that I had never seen anything good come out of compromising with a bunch of “poods. It had nothing to do with the HEARST case whatsoever. I was later asked about the HEARST case, at which tine I replied that the FBI was, conducting an intensive investigation i" ’2- Bureau (Encls. 2 ; ; 2 - San Francisco fis . . CWB/cmp 7 ga > , 2 {4)
