Carbine, manufactured by Winchester Company, Serial Number 6608261: e New Haven Division advised that on August 29, 1974, Shipping Department, . aay Winchest - Western Division, Orin Corporation, Winchester Avenue, New Haven, Connecticut, that records available at that company contain no information concerning U. S. .30 Caliber Carbine, Serial Number 6608267. rye On this same date, Winchester - Western, advis r ntained by Winchester - Western for a 30 Caliber Carbines manufaetured for the U. S. Government. He suggested that records might be located through the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. He advised, however, that when originally recorded, Serial Numbers of guns manu- factured were not maintained in sequential or numerical order. By communication dated Jul Springfield Office advised that SERENE ce2t one's Section, Distritution Section, SARMCOM, Rock Island Arsenal,, advised that he has no record to indicate that U. $/./.30 Caliber Carbine, Win- chester, Serial Number 6693261 has ever been reported lost, sold, or stolen. He stated that in 1968, he attempted to coordinate all Serial Numbers of carbine weapons, which totalled over six million bought by the U. S. Government from nine different manufactures, but was unable to obtain a response from Winchester Arms. GHEE «=< that military weapons are con- trolled b e unit currently in possession of the weapon and at this time, there is no central inventory point ana no record is maintained of shipments from one unit to another and as of this time, it would be impossible to trace the above- mentioned weapon. |
