PC-K5§273 PR JA and PC-K5475 PR, dated February 28, 1974)
and the Q196, 9209 and Q210 buliet and bullet fragments recovered
at the Hibernia Bank, (Laboratory reports PC-K6938 PR JA,
PC-K6939°PR JA and PC-k6932 PR, dated April 29, 1974) were
the same as those produced by the four submitted carbines,
.the ifdividual microscopic markings present on the test
bulleds obtained from these weapons were found to be different
from the markings present on the previously submitted specimens.
It is noted that the barrels, chambers and breechfaces of the
submitted carbines were corroded and scaled due to their.
exposure to intense heat. Therefore, it is likely that the
individual microscopic markings imparted to bullets and
cartridge cases by these weapons were changed significantly .
by the fire. . ,
.380 AUYO CALIBER PISTOLS (Specimens K69 and K70)
Specimens K69 and K70 are .380 Auto caliber Mauser,
Model HSc, doudle-action semiautomatic pistols which bear
Serial Numbers 0124493 and 0126377, respectively. These
pistols were manufactured by Mauser-WNerke A. G. of Oberndort,
Germany and were imported into the United States by Interarms,
Alexandria, Virginia. These two pistols are both rifled with
six lands and orcoves, right twist (land width=.080 inch,
groove width=.100 inch). mM

Of these two pistols, specimen K70.appears to have
suffered the lesser damage. Cartridges contained in the
magazine of this pistol had not "cooked-off" during the fire.
Aside from exterior corrosion, the only danage noted was a
charring of the right grip.and a melting of a plastic
substance at the bottom of-the magazine. The K69 pistol was
very corroded and structurally damaged-by exposure to intense
heat and the resulting extlosive force of the "sooxing-ott"
Gi cartridges vontalnett 2n ens mayneine..
The magazine of specimen K70 .contained five unfired
.380 Auto caliber Super Vel cartridcses which were loaded with
88-crain, copper-jacketed, hollow~pointed bullets. Also
submitted with specimen K70 were two cartridges of the same
type as found in the magazine. Present.in the magazine of the
K69 pistol were seven ruptured .380 Auto caliber cartridge
cases and six .380 Auto-caliber copper-jacketed, hollow-pointed
bullets. Tnese bullets and cartricge cases had separated as
a resulg-of the "cooking-off" of unfired cartridges contained
in the magazine. — ped oe b:
