(Specimens K61, K63, K6@pra K81)
230° CALIBER “CARBI
Specimens K6l, K63, K66 and K81 are .30 Carbine
caliber U. S. Carbines, Model Ml which have been modified
‘so as to*permit them to deliver only controlied fuli-
automatic fire. Specimens K61 and K63 bear Serial Numbers |
20512 and 2051004, respectively and were manufactured
under Governmant contract by Stardard Products Company, Port
Clinton, Ohio. Specimens K66 and K81 bear Serial Numbers _
6608261 nd 1248504, respectively and were manufactured under
Government contract by Winchester Repeating Arms Company, New
Haven, Connecticut. The barrels of these carbines are rified
with four lands and grooves, right twist {land width=.050
inch, groove width=.180 inch}).,; . ot
All the submitted carbines were modified in the
game manner. Normally, Ml:.carbines are converted to give .
selective semiautomatic and full~automatic fire by the '
substitution and addition of certain necessary parts.
Inasmuch as the unregistered conversion of the Ml carbine
to a weapon capable of full-automatic fire is prohibited
by the National Firearms Act, the necessary M2-type
components (hammer, sear, trigger housing, operating slide,
stock, disconnector group, ‘disconnector lever assembly and
_ gelecttor group) are not readily available. Due to the
manner in which the four submitted carbines were modified,
the additian and substitution of the MN2-type components were
not necessary. .. LO Merge at Ea _.
_ -It was noted that the trigger housing and sear of
the K63 carbine were M2-type components. ‘These parts were
not utilized in or necessary to the full-automatic fire
‘conversion of this carbine.. It is likely that they were
present in this Ml carbine prior to the time it was !
converte@ to a full~automatis Tire weapon.
Conversion of these carbines to full-automatic
' €ire weapons was accomplished, by the addition of a homemade
sear trip lever mechanism and the alteration of the operating |
slide, trigger,-trigger housing and trigger housing .
retaining pin. Although.the individual(s) who designed this
modification apparently possessed great inventive talent and.
a superior knowledge of firearms, the fabrication of the sear
trip mechanism and alteration of the other parts did not
‘require a great deal of mechanical and/or machine shop
