Tee ARR ; a -., Questions and Answers About a e~ 7 4 U.S.A., U.S.S.R., and U.N. Are we going to wer? ‘ NO -- if the people of the U. S., of Russia, of every country, make themselves heard. YeS -- if we allow the bi-partisan coalition in Washington to keep on threatening Russia, increasing hysteria, intervening in other countries, building an ever-bigger military machine, by-passing and betraying the U. N., establishing a peacetime draft and compulsory military training. These are acts of war, ana oan only inorease the danger. CAN we get anywhere with Russia? YES -- we know we can, just as Roosevelt did. Apart from any other reason, because Russia lost millions of citizens in the last war, and a major part of her factories, cities and railroads were destroyed. Russia, even if she wanted another war, is no- where near ready. , , - Why is kussia acting as she does? All Russia's moves which have been criticized, have been along her own borders. She : is terribly afraid of another attack, due to our monopoly of the atom bomb, our ocon- a stant denouncing of Russia as an enemy, our building un anti-Russian military power _ # alongside her in Greece, Turkey, China, eto. She is acting defensively, right or ’ wrong. . Does the “Yallace movement condemn only J. S. policy, whitewashing Russiat? 2 HO. “lallace and his suprorters condem any intervention in other countries, any atternt tc dominate them, any unnecessary restrictions on civil liberties, whoever is responsible. Sut our responsibility is our owm Government. And we could not : greatly influence internal policies in Russia if ve wanted to. Nor have we the right i to endanger American lives by pouring more oil on the raging fires of anti-Russian hysteria. . But what about the vetoes? Kussia has used the “veto” in the Security Council of the U. N., more than any other nation, The number of vetoes has been exaggerated. Many of them were repetitions or issues already vetoed. And kussia'ts vetoes have. been made when she felt her security endangered by a ma‘ority the U. S. lined “up against her. Anyhow, America herself weilé never nave toined the ‘'. N. without the veto provision. approved by President Benes. Whether it was necessary, whether excessive police force was used, etc., are disputed questions. Regardless of whether we approve the change, it was made by the Czech neonle. No Russian soldiers, tanks or planes moved in. It was NOT like Germany's moves in 1938 and 1939. And Czechoslovakia? The recent change in the Czechoslovak Government was obtained by legal megns and ~_ And Finland? Russia has asked Finland to negotiate a militery alliance. No terms have been settled. Except as a doliberate addition to the general hysteria, we can see no reason to get excited. , Italy? -- and the Larshall Plan? In Italy, the shoe shifts to the other foot. Russia has not been intervening. The Italien Socialist and Commmist ooalition are trying to win a free, democratic eleo- tion. But our State Denartment has served notice that it ~ill not tolerate a free election unless it goes our way. ‘le openly bribe the Italians with merchant ships and an offer of Trieste. ‘Te announce that we will immediately out off all aid if the "left" wins. Yet we keep on riously saying that the barshall Plan is open even to kussia! ‘hat hypocrisy! This is the most clear-cut exnose of the true nature of the barshall Plan -- not genuine aid but political and economic interference and domination. In its place, Wallace proposes a genuine, non-political plan to re- lieve all countries devastated by Germany and Yapan, through the U, N. How about Greece? Russia did not block a U. N. investigation of alleged interference in Greece by Albania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, But the U. 5. A, would not wait for the U. N. Com- mission to report. We jumped in single-handed with military aid to one of the most rotten, reactionary governments in Surope. Results have only been to increase Greece's misery and the strength of the guerrillas. And the U. N. refused to approve the U. S. claim that the Balkan countries had offioially intervened in Greece. Even the U. 5. did not claim that Russia had intervened. But certainly America did -- and does.
