lcbor problems. These discussions with many of the south’s
lending progressive figures is in itself a liberal edura-

B. Community Program-
(c) Purposs- To preservo and enrich the ind{genous cul-
turel treditions of the southern mountrins; through de-
mocratic and co-operative procedure to seek actively the
solution of breic community probleme.
(b\ The program-is of an informe] nature fellowing the
procedures of settloment houses rd of the Danish Folk
Schools. The setivities arc suggested by the community,
limited only by the intcrests of th: group ond the skills
of the st:ff. These activities for the most part consist
of evltural and recrcation.] groups, %.g., piino lessons,
voice culture, group singing, dramatics, merionette and
puppet meking, library scrvie, hikes and uthlectics, commu-
nity nowspuper, folk duncing, discussion groups, co-opcrao-
tive projects, nursery school, Not all of these interost
groups are miintained simultancously, but vary according
to the resources of the strff.
The co-operative idocl is stressed as the best instrument
through which to devclop community constiousness, self-
reliance, troining in democratic methods, and through which
the resources of the community my be made to yleld the
best returns. The nursery sthool, for excmple, is a co-
