Dear Sir,
In its seventh session, the Econonte and Social Council
adopted a resolution (No. 155(VII}E) throurh which it invited the
Secretary Genoral of the lnited Nations Organization to prepare a
draft Convention for the suppression of the traffic in women and
children, whose object would be:
To mite the Conventions of 1904, 1910, 1921 and 1933
relative to the suppression of the traffic in romen
and children, and
To resume the main point of the draft Cmvention of
1927 aiming to suppress tha exple oitation of the prosti-
tution of others, and to introduce in the latter pian,
all desirable improvements.
The Secretary General of the United Nations Organization has
already prepared a plan for the revision of the draft Convention of
1937, embodying some amendments and certain new dispositions which
have reference, especially to the creation of social services for a
battle against prostitution, and for the rchabilitation of prostitutes
(see document E/574, copy of which you will find attached herewith).
The document in question furnishes detalled information on the history
and scope of the plan for reconsideration.
Resolution No. 155 (VII} E also invites the Secretary General
to intreduce into the new unified plan, all changes introduced in the
draft Convention of 1937. However, these changes will be reshaped,
taking into consideraticn the observations presented by the Governments
and the non-governmental orpanizations.
