REPORT
[To accompany S. 2864]
The Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the bill
(S. 2864) to authorize ecrtain administrative expenses for the Depurt- ,.
ment of Justice, and for other purposes, having considered the same,
report for orably thereon with amendinents and recommend that the
bill, as amended, do pass. ;
The amendments are as follows:
On page 2, line 15, following the word “marshals” strike out the
commu and insert in eu thereof the word “and”, ; :
This ts merely a perfecting amendment,
On page 2, line 15, following the comma after the word “attorneys”
insert. “and at the request and in behalf of the Director of the Admin-
istrative Office of the United States Courts those of the”.
The purpose of this amendment is to preserve the present authority
of the Director of the Administrative Office of the United States
Courts which is now contained in chapter 41, title 28, United States
Code, and would permit the Department of Justice, at. the Director's
request, to continue these investigations and examinations as the
Judicial Conference in 1940 deemed desirable. It would further per-
mit a change at any time if either the Director or the Judicial Con-
ference desired such change. .

This amendment would delete a section which is superfluous.
Public Law 285, Eighty-first Congress, chapter 535, adequately covers
the snme subjec t anatter.
