John Edgar Hoover was born Senuary 1. 1895, in the District of . ,
Columbia. He was educated in the public schools of the District of
Columbia and received LLB and LLM Degrees from George Washington University.
He holds Honorary Degrees from George Washington University, Penneylvania
hilitary College, New York University, Drake University, Westminster
College, Oklahoma Baptist University, Georgetown University, Notre Dame | 71.
University, St. John's University Law School, Rutgers University, the
University of irkanees, Seton Hall College and Holy Cross College. He
holds an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science from Kalamazoo College and an
Eonorary Degree of Doctor of Civil Law from the University of the South.
On March 8, 1946, Mir. Hoover was presented the Kedal of Kerit Q.
by the Fresident of the United States.
He has been admitted to practice law before the dar of the
District Court of the United States for the District of Columbia, the a
United States Court of Claims, and the United States Supreme Court,
Hr. Hoover entered the Department of Justice in 1917, and in
1919, was appointed Special Assistant to the Attorney General. From 1921 2.
until 1924 he served as Assistant Director of the Bureau of Investigation
and in liay, 1924, he was named Director.
He is a trustee of the George Washington University; a trustee
of the National Presbyterian Church; member of the Board of Directors of
the Central Dispensary and Emergency Hospital, Washington, D. C.; member. 4.
of the Board of Directors of the Boye! Clubs of America; and a member of
the National Committee on Public Relations of the Boy Scoute of America.
