In connection with efforts of the Federal Bureau of
' Investigation to aispose cf memorabilia and cther material compiled on
behalf of .ir. Eoover durin: his stewardship of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, incluaing awards, plaques, mounied editorials and articles
from varicus publications; congratuiatory messages on anniversaries
or other occasions; photographs; caricatures as well as editorial cartoons;
certificates and honorary ceg,rees; Federal sureau of Investigation athletic
trophies, and scrapbook articles, quesiions have been raised as to
ownership of these various items. ‘This material is presently stored in
space in the Old Post Ociice Building under control of the Feaeral Bureau
of Investigation and is contained in sixty-eight separate caraboard boxes,
crates or packets. A general inventory was conducted to assure that
only material identifiable with the above categories was included therein.
In addition, there are eighteen cardboard boxes presently stored
in gpace under control of the Special Projects Section, Scientific and
Technical Services Division, inthe J. Eugar Hoover Building containing
humerous awards and plaques presented to iir. Hoover. These awards
and plaques were formerly displayed in the corridor and reception room
Ieading to his affice in the Department of Justice Cullding.
Former Director J. Edgar Hoover died on May 2, 1972. He
left a will datcd July 19, 1971, which is filed with the Register of Wills
for the District of Columbia. This will makes seven bequests and left
