Dowling, Washington Field Oxfice, telephonically _ advised that on a couple of occasions during the early Summer of 1972 he had accompanied Mr. Kunkel, then Special Agent in Charge at the Washington Field Otfice, to the home of the late J. Edgar Hoover. He stated they usually obtained a number of sealed boxes which he was told contained personal correspondence which had been earmarked for destruction -by Miss Helen Gandy. The sealed boxes were delivered to the loading plat- form at the Washington Field Office where they were turned over to clerical personnel for eventual destruction in the shredding machine located in that office.
