SOBLE interviewed 10/21/57 at U. S. Marshal's
Detention Quarters, U. S. Court House, NYC.
Re "YASNOMAISKY": SOBLE related that he never knew
anybody by this name who worked for Soviets either in U. S.
or elsewhere, SOBLE stated it was possible that he knew a
person named YASNOMAISKY in Canada, but if he did, the
person was not a Soviet agent. SOBLE states that the name
YASNOMAISKY is a common name in Russian language and he
possibly could have known a person by this name,
Re "The Carpenter": SOBLE claims he never had
anyone by name of, or referred to, as the Carpenter, SOBLE
stated he recalis a secretary to the Mayor in Verberie,
France, was named CARPANTIER and he probably reported to
Russian that he was friendly with CARPANTIER, but CARPANTIER
was not an agent of his, SOBLE related that he does not
know anyone who worked for Soviets under real name or cover
name of SPRIDENOY.
Re MOLTCHATSKY: SOBLE stated he knew of a GPU
man in Russia by name of MOLTCHATSKY, but knew nothing else
about him or activities.
