Walter Winehell's column in the "New York
Mirror" dated October 1, 1951 stated as follows:
"Alger Hiss is ailing in the prison hosp.”
The Philadelphia Office should check the
records at the Northeastern Penitentiary at Lewisburg,
Pa. regarding the reported hospitalization of Alger
Hiss and the nature of his tliness. Ihe records should
also be checked to determine the names and identities
of individuals who have visited and corresponded with
Hiss since the date of his tnearceration.
