Pie: ivi 3 this new local signed 4 new contract with Mr. Elshoff,
<. oi operator of Mine B. I switched over because the whole
ron town switched over to Progrcssive Miners. Between 1932
and 1937 it was the general feeling around Nine EB that Mr. Elshoff and the
manazement of Mine B wanted the miners to go back to United Niners workers.
Fobody avproachee me prior to 1937 to switch back to UM. except that it
vas guncral talk around the mine, I used to hear around inc B that some of
the men were approached to go back to UM but I don't kmow who they are any-

we got bottcr treatment anc-eengi@trition whenever we wanted something dons.

sleoys mods & report as to wherc the msioney went to that they got and the
mincrs always thought it tas a true report and were never suspicious that
anything was wrong. If some one cied a special assessment would be made
and the money given to the family of the desc man. I never felt or thought
that the officials of PIS) wore gctting ony kick-back of money. Between
1932 ané 1937 the UMT never picketed Mine EF. I dontt know of any mincrs
who were interestce in getting the FLO. to go back over to UM. but there
merc a fox who cid favor the UN but I don't recall whos they wore,

change back ts UMV from Phin.
"I don't know of any meetings or partics between the management
of Mins Band UkY officicls. It was the understancing of the miners curing
the spring of 1937 that Elshoff would not sign a contract with the
Progressives Dut vould sign come with the United Nine “orkers. Just before
the mine closed in @pring of 19387 the mincrs knew they were working without
4 contract but we all were gitting the same pay as we did before ant thore
