"No outsidors were at the mine at tho strike, just
tho local men anc thcir families would come sut and
wisit them, At tho PM’ mesting wo all agrced to picket
and no one forced us to picket but wo did so in order to
protect our jobs. JI was not at tho mine when tho injunction was read to the
miners but they all left pcacoably, and the picketing was over with.
“after tho injunction was issued I heard the mine was ts reopen
but I did not show up therc at all, as I thought there might be trouble.
"In regaré to the oleetion in Dee. 1937 all the mombcrs met at PT
hoacguartcrs and went in groups of 25 or so over to tho armory and voted
just as when onc votes for thc Fresident. Ms fore: was used and it was a
regular sooc election, anc all of us votcc of our own free will. <Aftcr-
words we @1l1 tole sur FR officisle just how wo votoe so they could chock
to soc if the figures werc correct. The results of thet elcction wera the
fcelings of the mincrs.
"After the clection in 1937 I cid not go back to the mine in 1938
when it was rc-openec, Tho membcrs of PMi¥ 211 wondercd how Elshoff could
keep the mins closed. “hon Mine B reopencd in 1939 I reecived a registered
letter from the Minc telling mc to come back to work anc and I did rcturn
and et that time I still belonged to Pei. I was told that the wage scale
woulc be the samc as it was in the Stete of Illinois. “e wont back eas an
oper shop. Aftor we got the rigistcrod lettcrs Phir hac a mesting and it
wos cdecidec best that all roturn to work othsrwisc they woulc lose their jobs
After we returned ts work UM mon came around and talked to usp and it was
notee that Uy men were treated better than the PM. mon as they wore given
bettcr rooms to work in anc were troated better. The management of the
Kins B cic not come out openly and favor the UM but it was noted that UN
organizers wore given a free hence and could do anything they desired. I
vas contacted m ny times at Mince B ts sign over to UMY and ubout 3 times
ciffercnt UAT men came to my home anc finally I had to sign ovcr to UMN as
I did not want to sec any trouble stert and I had to work in order to make
a living snd I did not want to lose my job. I cant! recall the names of
those who came to my hame. I con't romombcr signing a card for PMT but I
may have. I signed over ta UM because the osthers verc doing so and it
was mor. safe thot way. I hac hearc diffcrent stories of PMi mon getting
boast up because they would not sign over and I cidn't want to get boast up.
Thess men who contseted me never threitened me at all, .
"In regard to NLRE clection in 1941 it was run off like the other
onc but there was 2 lot of new faces cs now men wire being employod at
MWinc B from othir pliccs. The PMV men cid not like this sceond olection
as they had helc their first one and won anc did not like the idea of
