"I first startod mining in about Wane followed that trade until
June of 1943. I joined the U.N.°. in about anc was in that union until
about 1932 when I joined the P.¥.A. I do not reeall when I went to work at
ifine B, but I was there when I joined the F.M.A. As far cs I was conterned
I was satisfied to romain with United, but when tho Futt coma into being at
Sine B I was more or less compelled to join FMa in order to hold my job.
As far as I was concorned, conditions werc the same under PLA as under the
United. I lived quite 2 way out of town 89 I never attended many of the
moetings. JI hoard about the FMA men being convicted for some bombings in
about 1936 or 1937 & I always felt they wore not guilty of what they wero
chargod with.
“Before the timo of the strike I don't remombor any activity on the
pert of the U.28.... to orgenize the men. J was never asked to Join the
U.F eve bofore the time of the strike. J remember that a new contract was
to be simed betweon the company and the union in the spring of 1957.
I was quite sure the matter of wages would be settled by our union and the
company. I do not know anything about whet tho union was doing to settle
the issue, os I hardly ever attended any meetings. I did not attend a union
moeting the nite bofore the strike.
