INTERVIEN Viti QM sept. 26, 1937, I read in the paper that
(Continued) 'Bt was going © open the next day so on
the 27th I reported for work, JI waited on top with the rest of the men
and the Pl officials had a meeting with the company officials. Our
lwaders cane out and told us we were going to stay on the Mince 'B' Property
witil the company reeognized the PMA. We had our picket linc, or sit-
down fur about 56 days and the day or su befure Thanksgiving, the U. &.
Gov't came out and told us to leave. I was in the picket line all of
the time. ‘The Pl. did not have any outsiders come in and picket with us. -
The Pls leaders never used any force or threats to keep us in the picket
line.
"I do nut romenber an attenpt to have the mines re-opened in
Deo, of 1937, but I rescember reading in the paper that the nines
Would re-cpen in Januzry 1938. I went down to PHA headquarters and they
told me they had heard the rine was going to open and if I wanted to
report I could. and I decided
to wait a day tu sec Sen Wo roport to work the first day.
The sccond day I heard ‘only ‘five vr six had reported for work so I did not
bother to _ Up to Hine ‘Bt,
"TJ romember in December of 1937 the National labor Relations
Board held an election which the PM won, I voted and no one forced or
threatenod me in any way.
"In November of 1939, I got a letter from the company telling
me tu come back to work. bout the next day the PMi had a meeting at
which we decided to gv back to work, This was decided by a motion. We
went back as PM, but without a contract but we were told a contract
would be signed in thirty days. I thought the Pil, could get us a good
contract, but after thirty and sixty days when we didn't get a contract,
I began to lose faith in the PMA lawyer, J never thought about whether
the OT could get us a contract wmtil the next surmer.
"From the tine we went back to work in Nov, of 1939 wtil
1941 nc one ever tried to influence me in my way to join the UM. No
one ever threatened ne or beat ne ur gave m any ULM literature. I heard
sone of thc fellows were beat up and hurt by UM non but J never saw any»
thing like that. During this time I never noticed anyone from the company .
