*7 folt that tho members of PAE) who woro defondants in the
bombing casos were not responsible for thoir acts, but
I do not kmow who did the bombing, Tho miners I spoke
with thought those mon were framed,
"T yas satisfisd with the financial administration of the PMi. If
there werc ary special assassmonts they were voted for by the rank and file.
"J dontt rocall what the PH officials said about the temporary
agrecment with Elshoff in April, 1937, but sinco the PM., on a National
Sctle, wes smaller than tho UM”, I kmew that thc PRT would go along on
about thc same basis as UM., aftcr th UM’ made know their contract.
"IT did not attond the PL mecting held on the night of May 11,
1937. I rocall that th: announcement for the mecting was posted on the
bulletin board at tho mine by the chock woighmon. I kmow that the five
PX. minors who wore oxpcolled from PM” during that mecting wore charged with
recruiting for the UI", I suppose the mincrs who did not attond the
meeting wore notified of tho oxpulsion of the five miner, by word of mouth,
"I do not kmow why the coal cars were loaded short after the
abwe five men were throvm out of Locel 54, PM.. I signed the PM. petition
on May 26, 1937 which was presented to Elshoff showing that the Pi. had a
majority and should be the sole bargioning sgent. There was no compulsion
used to enduce members to sign this petition, and tho petition was presented
to the miners at the mine. I do not recall that UM’ issued a petition in
the summer of 1937. I was not esked to join UMi local 7469 on July 29,
1937, but a mincr namcd Lee 0. Eumgarner who had been & member of tho Pi,
but who lator joined with the Grelve men whose names I] havo sot forth in
the above atatcment, including Dominic Pasguaje, approached ms and said,
tI'd like to see all you old fellows joined up with UM; as I'm afraid you
will lose your jobe if you dontt,t He did not otherwise thrcaten me. How-
over, 88 already montioned in this statement, othcr members were threatoned
and some were boaten.
"cath reforenoce to the attempt to open the mine on Soptomber 27,
1937, I belicve 1 got notice of the oponing by work of mouth, £s I recall,
prior to this opening, the Pati had a meoting and docidod thst if the mine
oponce it would only open aa a PMT mine, because the PM” had a contract
wath the Mine Be .
"The PE. did mot considor that tho Federal Injunction of December
13, 1937 was just, but all the PN7 miners complied with it, The operatives
attempted to open Kine B on Docomber 13, 1937. I did not got to work on
the first day, but wont there on Decomber 14, 1937. I heard that tvolve ,
men had gone below ground the day before. Tho FMT started picketing and
I helpod them picket a couple of days. «9 did not import men from outside
