"I first went to Mine B in 1932 when I was WB ycors of age. At
the time that I went to Mine B the local there was a member of the Pro-
gressive Mine Workers of america. J liked that union. JI was very much
satisfied with the way the PMV of A and local #54 was being operated. T
would have stayed in the Puy if I could have. Thero was nothing wrong

with that union as far as I know, I did not go to the union mectings very
often. I was not at tho meeting of the union the night before the strike
was called. I did not know anything about the strike until the day that
the strike occurred. I was working on top of the mine, and noticed that
the men were sending up sm2zll cars. I did not knw anything about it
until then, and thought then that thore might be a strike. I did not
know why, but I recall that someone told me afterwards that the quarrel
was because the company would not discharge some men, or something like
that. I did not know any of these men beforo the strike.
“After the strike I went back out to the mine on the days after-
rds for a short time. I do not remember that anything happened out thore.
o not recall signing any papers, but if I did they were for the Pro-
essive Mine Workers. I could not got a job at that time.
