IN TERVIDi
NT do not remember going to any P,M.a. meeting the night vefore
the strike. I don't remember if a notice of the meeting was posted or not,
and I don't know the reason for the meeting. A day or so before the strike,
in 1937, I knew that tiere was going to de a strike, A couple of men told
me there would be one, but I don't remember who they were or exactly what
they said. 3ecause of this I didn't go out to tine Bon the day of the strike,
so I don't know what happened that day.
"J don't remember sipniug any paper for the P.M.A., or for any
union, in the summer of 1937, I do know that I was not askec to join the
U.Mwr., either before the scrike, or during the summer of 1937.
"J don't remember any notices Ddeing sent me adout the mine being
reopened. J did picket at the mine in the fail of 1937, wher the other
P.I.A. men aid, but I was not forced to. I did it because I wanted to be
with the majority of the men, I do not remember seeing any men there who
vere rot working, or hac been worki.g, at itine 3. 2 do not know the
reason we were picketing, but I do remember that we heard of the federal
injunction several cays before the U. S. Marshal came out to the mine.
"In 1937, 1 remember that I voted in the election held at the state
armory. I don't knuw how I knew aoout tue election, but I do know I voted
for P.*I,a., because i thought it was the better of the two wions. Ho
one made me vote at the election, but I did it of my own free will.
"T con't remember exactly, put I think that I hcard about the re-=
opening of Mine B in 1939 over the radio, I don't remember getting any
notice from the mine management or from the union, I was sick at the
time and think I startec back to work at tine 3 in 1940, About a weck after
I started back to work, some man I didn't know came to me and told m I
ougat to join the U.I..4. becausc they vere going to run the mine. I
told him I wouldn't join up right away, out would when I thought the najority
of the men wanted that union. This is the first time anyone ever talked to
me about the U.M.i., and f never was threatened in any way, I joined the
U.N... about two weeks later, because I thought most of the men wanted it,
anc ~ would have to, to keep my job. No one ever told me that I would
los? my job if I didn't sipn up with the U.M.. If anyone had said so,
I would have quit. #5 it was, I joined without any threats being used.
