“I began working in coal mines at iil. about i
joined Uli at that time and remnined such unti @ when I joined r.M.A.
I was working at Panther Creck Hine #1 et that tine and our local voted ta
change to PMA and then the mine shut dowm. I did not work in the mines after
that until I started at Mine "B" in 1936.

“T mew of no trouble at Mine "B" when I first started to work
there but a month or so bofore the P.M.aA. contract ran cut, I remember some
ene telling me that U.M.a. yes gitempting to sign up the miners in UM¥. &
little later a man named , told me thet the shot firer whose name was (\
“Jimny” was asking the men to join U.M.w.e and that I should watch my step
but he never did ask me to join UM
"During this time I heard thet Joe «lbanese, Andrew Schrelevious,
Dominic Pesquale, Pete Carter, Frank sustin, Tony Plotch, John snanies, John
Sirtout, Charles Bohannon, James Hale, were all working as spies at Mine "B"
but none of them ever approachcd me to get me to join UM. before the
strike in 1957.
"I did not know any of thcse men had becn expelled from P.M.A.
at the time of the strike and I did not hear that we wore suppcsed to load
_ cars short on the day of the strike. I worked a full day and loaded all
— cars tho same as I had been and had two cars loaded in the mine which were
4 later hoisted when the mine «as opencd for one day by U.M.v%. I learned that
the mine was on strike the next day when I went to work the next day. I
learned thet the reason for the strike was because the men refused to work
