"I do not remember any wage stale controversy in
the Soring of 1937.
"I did not attend e meeting of PMA on the night of
May 11, 1927. I do not remember if I received notice of the meeting or not.
"A few deys prior to May 12, 1937 someone told me that PETE CARTER,
FRANK AUSTIN, JOHN ANANIAS, GEORGE JACAN.Y, EMORY JACAWSY and CHARLES BOHLNNON
were expelled from FM&4 because they were labor spies for U.M.wW. Nona of the
above named men ever mentioned union activities to me.
"On Mey 12, 1937 I went to work as ususl and no one reflected any
intention of striking. On the afternoon of May 12, 1937 someone told me that
Mine "B" was on strike because the management would not discharge the above
nemed men who were expelled from PMA. J noticed con] cars were loaded short
thet day, but I do not know the resson for the cers being louded short.
"I do not remember if I signed a PMA petition in the Summer of 1937,
but I know I did not sign en UMY petition.
"J did not know of the formation of a new UMW loeel in the Summer
"PMA informed me thant Mine "B™ was to open sometime in Sept. 1937.
On the dcy Mine "B" wis to have opened I voluntarily went to the mine to act
eso picked. Isrcted 2s 2 picket from time to time until an injunction wes
obt;ined to prevent the picketing. It mde no difference to me whether the
injunction wes served or note
"I do not know of an ettempt to open Mine "B" in Dec, 1937 or Jan.
1938.
"I voted in the N.L.R.B. election Dec. 15, 1937 for PMA. 5o far
as I know the election was fnir and I voted as I wished.
"I received notiee in Nov. 1939 to return to work at Mine "B", I
returned ns a manber of PHA. I did not heer of eny large fires at Mine "B"

on my return to the mine, but I did hear there were many ¢ure-ins, Ne one
asked me-to join UMW for two or three months after my return to worky but
efter two or three months passed many of the employees at Mine "B" informed
me thet I would either have join UNW or I would not heve a job. In the
» spring of 1940. Maat idine "B" asked me to join UMW
= and I tiought would loose my job. I was not eat any~
5 time threatened if I did not join UMW, I heard thet same of the miners were -
threctened end bent beczuse they did not join UMW, but I did not see snyone
thrertened or best. The menagement of Mine "B" did not seem to favor eithet
