INTERV The PUA rank and file were satisfied with the PMA
officials. This was a good union and to my knowledce,
eontinued n> fraud existed on the part of the officials of PMA.
"In May, 1937 several men in the mine were apritating for UMV at
Mine B. There were four or five of these men but I don't recall their names.
None of them ever contacted me. I felt that these men should be expelled
from the wnion and fecl that the rank and file miners felt the same way. I
did not attend the PHA meetinz of May 11, 1937. I signed the PLA petition
of Moy 26, 1937 to show that 1 was a member of PAA. I do not recall signing
any other petition in 1937.
"On May 12, 1937 I worked the whole day in ox
I neven knew that short cars were lozded until after work that evening.
donot recall why they were shorted.
"I was not familiar with the ware scale controversy in 1937 between
Elshoff and the PMA and nad no understanding of it.
"I voted in the NLRB election of December 15, 1937. I think this
was a fair election and presented 2 true picture of the feelings of the
miners in Mine B at that time.
"after I went back to work when this mine re~opened in November,
1939, ‘Iu-s not contacted by any UM0 orgyrizors, but in 1940, Cotton Ananias
approached me in the mine and asked me to join the UMY. Ideclined. He
did not use any threats. Also in 1940, two Udi members came to my home
and asked me to join the Wiv. One of these men was Wiz: I declined.
No threats were made to més
"I understand a member of the UM, an orpanizer, spent a good deal
of time at Elshaff's office anc that he was friendly with him. “This was
unusw2l for men, not on union committess to do and I felt Blshoff preferred
the UMW. I am unable to state from my 2m knorledge actual incidents show~
inc the relations between Elshoff and the Ui or the Uh organizers.
nI have carefully read this statement consistin> of two and one
haif pages and it contains the truth to the best of my knowledge.
