"J had never been asked to join thc U.L.7. up to the time. of the
strike. Iremember that there was some argument about the new contract
which w2s to be signed by the compzn, in the spring of 1937, Our board
said a contract was to be sipned, making it retrozctive, but the company
enid they didn't owe us any back pay. A lot of the men were arguing about
the new contract, but I don't kmow any of the details of the contract.
“I was a new gin at the mine and didn't know all of the men, and
since I lived ill: didn't go to many of the meetings. J heard that
12 men were kicked out of the PMA union, because they thought they were
working for united. I don't know the names of any of those men thourh.
"I recall that on the day of the strike I was working in box B
ag a Gigper. I went to work that day as usual and I remember that our union
men didn't went the 12 men to work, but the company said they wer. supposed
to go to work. We all went to work and I heard that some of the 12 men also
went to work. When I heard that the rest of the men were sending up short
loads, I also sent up some short loads. We were called out of the mine
sbout one half an hour before quitting time. We were sending up short loads
