(Continued) the fact that he stated he had talked with PEFFERLE in
; an attempt to refresh their minds correctly on the matter, Special Agent
bie WR o-interviewes Ur. PEFFERLE,
In addition to the information already reported, Mr. PEFFERLE
after cxamining a copy of a letter addressed Jume 11, 1942 to CARL H. -
LLSHOFF and containing the offer by the Panther Creek Mine Company to make
a lease to ELSHOFF, recalled that this was one of the main meetings of
the parties in connection with ELSHOFF's negotiations for Panther Creek.
He recalled several other meetings before this meeting, the exact number,
time and piace of which he could not recall. He did remember one in-
stance, however, previous to the meeting on June 11, 1942, when he met
ELSHOFF at ELSHOFF's office, at which time ELSHOFF exhibited a large pile
of photostatic copies of information pertainirg to an appraisal which the
Panther Creek Mines had had made, The Panther Creek Mine had previously
contemplated attempting to secure a loan from Reconstruction Finance \
Corporation and for this reason had had the appraisal made. ELSHOFY
had undoubtedly secured photostatic copies of the appraisal from the Re- .
construction Finance Corporation and in this connection claimed that the
Panther Creek people had to some extent misrepresented Panther Creek
Mines.
Mr. PEFFERLE recalled that the main meeting, at which an offer ef
lease was made, tcok place in the forenoon in the office of CLaYTON J,
BakBUR, attorney for the Panther Creek Mine Company. Fresent were Mr.
ROBSRT SOLOMON, Presidert of Panther Creek tfines, Mr. 34RBER, represent-
ig Panther Creek Mineg Mr. PEFFERLE, who represcnted the Panther Creek
Hinges in connection with compensation claims, and Mr. CARL ELSHOFF. Mr.
PLFFERLE recalled that the suzgestion was made that CARL ELSHOFF sccure
control of Panther Creek Mines by purchasing the capital stock. de
would thus obtain all the assets and liahilities and contracts of Panth
WOM aa Ne aa A CA SSS56C5 ang i341 1ib185 ant comiracts of ranta
Creek Fine. ELSHOFF stated that he was not interested in purchasing the
capital stock because all rights of the corporate ehtity and all contracts
of it would be included and he would be tied up with a contract with
the PMA Union.

Mr. PEFFERLE further récalled in addition to the information set
out above, that ELSHOFF statcd that the lease proposition would carry
with it the labor contracts and that "I dontt want those." ELSHOFF
wanted to buy only the physical property, On June 11, 1942, ELSHOFF
also stated, to the best of PEFFFRLE's recollection, "I've got to have
it in writing to take to my people in Washington." Here he meant the
proposition or offer of Panther Creek Mines,
