At his residence, Springfield, Illinois, Agents interviewed and ne advised that the day before yesterday he was going down into the mine with many other miners and that some unknown man told ail of them that they did not have to talk to the FEI men if they dic not want to, However, he said he was in the rear and did not hear all what this man said but he advised Agents he would neverthelees answer the questions asked him. He said he never has been arrested in his life and it was noted thet he is more intelligent than the average miner. He undere stood the questions and readily answered theme It is felt he would make a good witness if his testimony were necessary. Agente obtained fron him the following signed statement; Springfield, Ill. “I, give this free and voluntary statement to an vho have identified themselves ag onecial Agenves of the I.B,l. and no force or threats heve been made me to give thie etatement. I ware told by a man not to talk to you men but I dontt know who he was. He told me at Mine B day before yeetercay. He juet said I don’t have to talk but I want to tell you men the truth. “I emploved at Mine B as a coal di ve been there about veere or more. I was born and I care to U.&. 15 ind became a citizen abou yeare ago. I belonged to union in née brot my card along and it was with Ue.M.W. Before 1932 there was no trouble between Elshoff and U.H.W. that I know of and thinge got along ok. I never held e@ union office. In 1952 I went over to P.H.A. ae majority went over and I never helped orgenize it. Pi.A. union wae about same ae the U.M.W. I don't reall of any trouble between Elshoff and P.i.A. before Mine B closed end { never heard of anyone wanting to chenge beck to U.K.W. and no one came to me about it. P.ILLA. wae juet an ordinery union like others. I did not attend meny F.M.A. meetings at el] and was not very active. While F.RLA. union was there it seened just like the old U.M.¥..
