With reference to the listing of the telephone at the home of Geletas in the nare of Mire. George W. Bates, Mrs. hartin advised thet to” ber knowledge no one of the name of Bates bas ever lived in the house, which she has owned eince 1931. Frior to her acquiring the house it was occupied by a Dr. Shoup, and the only other people who lived there prior to ite rental to Galatas were friends of hera named Norden. It accori- ingly seems certain that the phone was purposely obtained by Galatas in the name of Bates. In this connection it is possible that the mother of Liree Galates is named Betes. Mrs. Martin could not recall the name, - but expressed doubt that it is keFadden, which was the name given to Agents by the negro mide For the purpose of obtaining information as to lira. Louls@2onner, further contect was hed with Mir. Moses Mendel at 1101 Centrel Avenue, ae Kot Springs, and with his permission a thorough search was mede of the apartment formerly occupied by Mra. Conner. A number of items of possible value were obtained and are transmitted herewith to the Kansas City Office. Among them the following are noted: Slip of paper containing the address *162¢ Putnam Street, Detroit, Michigan", and "Phone Garfield 2165" followed dy . & symbo] resenbling the figure 8 minus a portion of the top loop. <All written in pen and ink, end being possibly the heading of a letter. Scraps of an envelope evidently addresaseé to Loulse Conner at 1101 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, postmarked at Detroit, - Kichican, June 1, 1932. On the reverse of the scraps is Written in ink "tO ¢0Ss<<e-rec~ -Detr", and there is a portion of a atamped symbol containing the letter D, being possibly an envelope of the Detroit-Leland Rotel, it being indicated thet the missing half of the symbol contains enother letter ef the alphabet.
