With reference to the listing of the telephone at the home of
Geletas in the nare of Mire. George W. Bates, Mrs. hartin advised thet to”
ber knowledge no one of the name of Bates bas ever lived in the house,
which she has owned eince 1931. Frior to her acquiring the house it was
occupied by a Dr. Shoup, and the only other people who lived there prior
to ite rental to Galatas were friends of hera named Norden. It accori-
ingly seems certain that the phone was purposely obtained by Galatas in
the name of Bates. In this connection it is possible that the mother of
Liree Galates is named Betes. Mrs. Martin could not recall the name, -
but expressed doubt that it is keFadden, which was the name given to
Agents by the negro mide
For the purpose of obtaining information as to lira. Louls@2onner,
further contect was hed with Mir. Moses Mendel at 1101 Centrel Avenue, ae
Kot Springs, and with his permission a thorough search was mede of the
apartment formerly occupied by Mra. Conner. A number of items of
possible value were obtained and are transmitted herewith to the Kansas
City Office. Among them the following are noted:
Slip of paper containing the address *162¢ Putnam Street,
Detroit, Michigan", and "Phone Garfield 2165" followed dy
. & symbo] resenbling the figure 8 minus a portion of the
top loop. <All written in pen and ink, end being possibly
the heading of a letter.
Scraps of an envelope evidently addresaseé to Loulse Conner
at 1101 Central Avenue, Hot Springs, postmarked at Detroit, -
Kichican, June 1, 1932. On the reverse of the scraps is
Written in ink "tO ¢0Ss<<e-rec~ -Detr", and there is a portion
of a atamped symbol containing the letter D, being possibly
an envelope of the Detroit-Leland Rotel, it being indicated
thet the missing half of the symbol contains enother letter
ef the alphabet.
