He advised that he does not know Clara Esrris and at Agents’ request ques- tioned an employee at his restaurant, who stated thet the only calle he Can recall from the pay station to Hot Springs were made by an old colored Woman who advised that she was calling her daughter, employed ae a maid in Hot Springs. Efforts were made to locate someone who knows this woman dut she could not be found. It ie apparent that Clara Harris ie the mother of Margeret Ward, the maid at the Galatas home, In accordance with instructions from the Kansas City Office con- tact wee hed with United States Attorney Wallace Townsend relative to | having the safety deposit box of Gealatas at Hot Springs sealed. Mr. Towne eend accordingly filed a petition with the United States Dietrict Judge esking for a Restraining Order against the opening of the safety deposit box, and the order was signed by Federal Judge Martineau. The order was immediately dispatched to Fot Springs by a Deputy Marshal for service on the Arkansas National Bank, all parties contacted were requested to treat the matter in con- ‘Tidence, and promised to do 80. It was ascertained that the negro maid employed by Kre. Conner, at Hot Springs, ia Arxie Guinn, who resides at 107 Daisy Street, Hot Springs, She was interviewed end advised that she had been employed by \ irs, Conner for several weexs, working half days. She was last at the Conner epartment on a Saturday, at wbich time Mra. Conner called by tele- phone and told her that she would not have dinner et home and for arkie not to return until notified, She has heard nothing further from kre. Conner end wes unable to give any information of value, She advised re. Conner left owing her wages. : During the search made by Agente at the apartment occupied by Mre, Conner a slip of paper bearing the number “36049" was noted, It was ascertained that this is the Hot Springs telephone number of Mise Edna Eumphrey, who resides at 214 Parker, and is employed as a waitress at the National Cafe. This party was interviewed but she stated she never heard of Era. Conner. With reference to the report received by the Kansas City Office to the effect that Lou Conner might be located at Benton, Arkansas, in- quiries were made at that point by Agents through the Post Office, Sheriff's Office and City Marshal, none of whom could furnish any information indicat- ing that it was true. These parties were furnished with descriptive date with the request that the Bureau Office at Oklahoma City be notified should any information be obtained, either regarding Bra. Conner or the car ahe ia reported to be driving, and they promised to cooperete. With reference to the telephone call made from the Bismark Hotel,
