Fred Tompkins feels that if he can meet Pete McCarthy
_ Within the near future st Newark end sit down end drink @ few beara
with him, he can undoubtedly ascertain the exact location of Yerne
Miller and his outfit. He promised to return to the New York office:
of the Division and discuss the metter further with agents Sterr ané
Manning.
~~
In thie connection, it is reasonable to assume that
Tompkins since he served tine with many of the fugitives in the Kansss
City mascecre at the Leavenworth Penitentiary may poesibly be in a
position to learn the locations of the parties responsible for the
slaying of Ray Caffrey.
Fred Tompkins te not quite satisfied that piek’ Sheridan
elias Richara Tallmen Geletes is the finger-men or the killer in the
Kansss City case. He stated that a photograph of Earl Tannerbill, e
former inmate of the Leavenworth penitentiary, resembles Geletes to
such ean extent that the parties who heve heretofore identified the
picture of Galetes as e participant in the Eansss City slaying may
be in error. It ie suggested therefore thet o photogreph of Earl
Tannerhill be. secured end sampared with a likeness of Galates in
order to remove eny doubt which may poseibly exist in the identificetion
of Galatas’ picture es one of the sisyera.
' On sugust 8, 1933 a wire wes received from the Director -.

had been living at Ocean City, H.J, or visiting in that vicinity.
Postmaster Young, Ocean City, N.J. interviewed all
fourteen carriers working out of bis office end checked them for the
nenes ¥, C, Miller, Moore, or Clarence Allen. It was'felt desirable
that he do thie rather than the agents eo that zo importance would be ~*
lent to the inquiries end in order that discussion among the carriers
might be obviated. No information was secured through this source.
