The following ia the result of my interview with John L. Moore
pursuant to Director's letter of August 22, 10953, which is attached here-
to. The infornmant's middle initial is L. rather then G., as 4s set forth
in attached letter.
Moore at the present time is a trusty at the Arkansas Training
School for Girls located at Rt. 1, Box 16, Alexander, Ark. He stated that
he firet met Charles (Pretty Boy) Floyd at the Missouri Stete Penitentiary,
Jefferson City in 1926, and that he was a cell mate of Floyd. Moore atated
bia penitentiary No. was 28609 and that be end Floyd were serving time for a
robbery out of St. Louis, he serving a seven year sentence and Floyd serving
& five year sentence. Moore stated he was released in 1929; that in June of
1952 while hitch-hiking out of Tules, Floyd and George Birdwell passed him on
the highway in a packard touring car. Floyd recognized him and atopped; thet
he, kioore, was eick at the time and Floyd insisted that he go with them to
their hideout until he felt better. hioore stated they drove to Sallisay,
okie, where Floyd obteined «a cooked hem from a wounn who he later stated was
his mother end then proceeded to the cave which is one of Floyd's hangouts,
Moore stated that it was dark when they reached Sellisaw, but after leaving
there they drove through Akin, Okla., and proceeded in what he believed was a
Northeasterly direction; thet efter leaving Akin about five milea they crossed
an iron bridge, which covered what formerly head been @ creek but has filled up
and bas no water in it. After crossing the bridge they turned sharply to the
right and went through some woods for about a mile; thet there was ro road,
after crossing the bridge, only rocks and big boulders. He believes they
traveled West of Northwest after crossing the bridge. He stated after leaving
the wooda they then walked about three hundred yarde after which they came to
the point of a mountain which, he thinks was pointing Southeast; that they tcok
the left hand side of the mountain and walked along its aide about two hundred
and fifty yards and came to a cave; that they walked along the cave for another
two hundred yards after which it opened up into a large sized room and which
furnished the living quarters for Floyd and his gang. Loore stated he does not
know whother there is a rear outlet to the cave; that in front of the entrance
there is a cedar tree ubout five or six feet tall which has been painted brown
te help conceal the entrance, This tree ie planted in a keg. He aleo ateted
that people live within about a mile of the cave but that all of the people in
the vicinity are Floyd's friends and cooperate in tipping his gang as to |
atrengers, etc, seen in the neighborhood.
Moore stated that he stopped with Floyd for two deys, efter which
